Government
Announces Exemption on Royalty for 60 Mountain Peaks.
His Majesty‘s Government of
Nepal has decided to exempt royalty for ascending certain peaks. The
goverrnment has recently announced partial and total exemption of royalty
on 60 mountain peaks of the Kingdom of Nepal. The new announcements are made
with the view of promoting the trekking and mountaineering sector in
connection with the destination Nepal Year 2002-2003, the golden jubilee
celebration of the successful asscent of Mt. Everest and International
Mountaineering Tourism Year 2002.

Mountaineering Information
Royalty and Size of Expedition Team
RULES EFFECTIVE FROM 1996 SPRING

01. |
More than
one team may be permitted to climb Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) by separate
routes in one season. |
|
02. |
A royalty of
US$ 50,000 has been fixed for Sagarmatha for a team consisting of 7
members. The team may include 5 more members provided if it pays extra
US$ 10,000 for each additional member. The royalty includes trekking fee
of the team members. The team members will be granted three months
visas. Additional US$ 20,000 will have to be paid by the team willing to
scale Sagarmatha by normal South East Ridge route. |

In all regions including
Khumbu, an expedition team can have up to 7 members for the minimum
royalty, and 5 more members for the additional royalty. |

04. |
The team
already permitted to scale Sagarmatha will have to pay US$ 10.000 if it
intends to change the ascent route. It will have to pay additional US$
20.000 if it intends to change the ascent route to normal South East
Ridge route. |

05. |
For peaks
other than Sagarmatha, the team will have to pay additional 25% of the
.royalty in US dollars to change the ascent route. |
|
06. |
Expedition
team must complete all necessary administrative formalities and
procedures in order to take back the garbage of the expedition team to
their respective countries, after the completion of the expedition.
Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation will take necessary
monetary deposit from them, which will be refunded after the dispatch of
garbage from Nepal. |

AUTUMN.
The Ministry of
Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has fixed the price of the deposit for
the management of garbage by each mountaineering team which tries to climb
any peak in Khumbu region. They are as follows:

CATEGORIES OF GARBAGE

d. Cotton and jute bags
e. Spoiled food
f. Dead bodies |
Disposable goods down from base camp and to be disposed in the presence
of Chairman or Ward Member of the concerned Village Development
Committee. Similarly, recycling materials should be brought back to
Kathmandu and hand-over to a prescribed agency for recycling. The
re-exportable goods should be dispatched from Nepal to their
respective countries
and deposit amounts refunded. |
| 2. Recycling
materials: |
a. Tins,
bottles jars and plastic containers
b. Plastic and foil bags and sheetings
c. Reusable cooking gas cylinders
d. Gas Canisters |
The
liaison officer will be responsible to enforce the above mentioned
procedures. Similarly, the eader and headman will be liable to perform
the above mentioned task in cooperation with the liaison officer. |

3. Re-exportable goods: |
a. Used oxygen bottles
b. Used batteries
c. Climbing equipment such as tents, personal gear etc. |
